A Note on Kombucha: Returning to Our Roots in Cheese Making

We have some news to share, and while it's a small change, we want to be upfront with you about it: we are discontinuing the sale of kombucha SCOBYs at Standing Stone Farms.

A few years ago, we added kombucha supplies to our lineup because, like cheese making, it's a beautiful fermentation craft — one that connects you to your food in a meaningful way. We loved introducing so many of you to the world of homemade kombucha, and we're genuinely proud of that.

But here's the truth: cheese making is our heart. It's what Standing Stone Farms was built on, and it's where our passion, expertise, and energy belong. As we've grown, we've realized that doing one thing exceptionally well matters more to us than doing many things adequately. And when it comes to cheese making, we believe we have something truly special to offer.

So we're coming home — back to the craft that started it all.

What This Means for You

If you've been a kombucha customer, thank you. Truly. We hope the SCOBYs and supplies you've gotten from us have led to many delicious batches. While we won't be restocking kombucha supplies, our Kombucha 101 blog post will remain available as a resource.

And if you haven't yet explored cheese making — well, now's a great time to start. Whether you're a complete beginner or a seasoned home fermenter, our cheese making kits are designed to make the process approachable, rewarding, and genuinely fun.

We Still Love Fermentation — Just in a Different Form

Cheese making and kombucha brewing share the same spirit: patience, live cultures, and the quiet satisfaction of making something real with your hands. We'll always have a soft spot for kombucha. We're just choosing to channel that fermentation love into the craft we know best.
